JOB DESCRIPTION BELOW

• COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY OF THE INSTRUMENT: All the keys, screws, and screw rods are removed from the body. The old pads and pad cement are removed. All the key corks and all body corks are removed along with the old cork glue.
• REPAIR: All bent keys, bent posts, and bent shafts are repaired.
• WOOD BODY IS PREPARED: The wood is cleaned. The body, barrel, and bell are soaked and cleaned in oil soap using extra soft brushes. This cleaning applies not only to the outside of the instrument, but also to the tone holes and the bore. Your clarinet is then oiled with the highest quality bore oil.
• TONE HOLES: The tone holes are checked and leveled, if necessary, to prepared for the new pads. This step is time consuming but is very important on professional instruments.
• KEYS: The keys are chemically cleaned, degreased, and sterilized to get rid of the old oil and grease. Old dirt filled grease can cause slow action. Then the keys are polished. The key shafts and pivot screws are also cleaned and made ready for new key oil when the instrument is reassembled.
• KEYS ARE TIGHTENED: We remove excessive play from keys when they are replaced on the instrument. This insures a tight new feel to your clarinet and causes the pads to hit the tone hole precisely level so the instrument plays smoothly.
• ALL CORKS ARE REPLACED: Every key cork is replaced with the highest quality cork available. The body cork joints are also replaced with the same quality cork. The thumb rest is fitted with a new thumb rest pad.
• ALL PADS ARE REPLACED: Every pad is replaced with the highest quality skin or cork pads, which ever you prefer.
• PADS ARE LEVELED: Each pad is individually leveled on its respective tone hole. This step will help the pad to last longer and give more efficient service.
• PADS ARE SEATED: Each pad is individually seated on its respective tone hole. This is a separate step from the leveling of the pad. It will assure the best possible seal, and thus the best possible response from each tone.
• ADJUSTMENT: The clarinet is adjusted to its best possible playing condition. Pad height, spring tension, key balance and placement of ring keys are all adjusted.
• INSPECTION: The clarinet is inspected visually, and played by a repairman that has inspected thousands of clarinets. Also, we have private clarinet teachers on our staff that play each professional clarinet before it is returned to you.
• CONCLUSION: On the professional clarinet overhaul, everything possible is done to protect the quality that was built into your professional instrument. We go all out to maintain the professional integrity that you expect of the instrument.

The best way to repair a broken key is to replace it, if the key is still available from the manufacturer. Some manufacturers are better than others at keeping a stock of parts for their instruments. If the key is still available, we will order the part and fit it to the instrument. We use the same exacting standards as the original manufacturer. If the key is not still available, fear not. We can still fix your clarinet. If you can supply the broken parts, the repair can be accomplished at a modest price. We use only the best quality true grenadilla wood in the replacement of wood clarinet tenons. The new tenon is custom made for your individual instrument. It is crafted on the lathe to exact tolerances, so the playing qualities of your instrument are not changed by the introduction of new wood. The cost is minimal, compared to the replacement of a grenadilla wood joint, and the replaced tenon should function as well as a new joint. For this repair job, all wood clarinets are considered to be professional.

We prefer to use the pinning method. This method is safe for the clarinet and changes none of the playing quality of the instrument. The price listed for this repair is a starting price only. A crack in the clarinet body may take from one to as many as 10 pins to repair. We charge $60.00 for first pin and $20.00 per additional pin. THE PRICE LISTED IS AN ESTIMATE.
