Dr. Muckelroy came
to Tyler State College in January
of 1974 as the first Music Professor
at the new school being established
in East Texas. He began a Department
of Music that has grown significantly
over the years. In 1976 Tyler State
College became Texas Eastern University
and in 1979 that school became The
University of Texas At Tyler.
Prior to coming to the University
of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Muckelroy
taught in the Texas public school
systems of Granger, Midland, and
Brazosport as a band director,
orchestra director and as a general
music teacher. His college and
university teaching experiences
include Jacksonville College, Tyler
Junior College, Southwest Texas
State University, The University
of Houston and The University of
Texas at Tyler.
Dr. Muckelroy holds the degree
Bachelor of Music from Southwestern
University in Georgetown, and the
Master of Music and Dr. Of Education
in Music Education from the University
of Houston.
On August 31 of 2000 Dr. Muckelroy
retired having completed forty-four
years as a music teacher, and having
been a strong influence in the
lives and careers of hundreds of
students. He and his wife make
their home in Tyler where he continues
to play with the UT Tyler Community
Band. He
teaches privately and remains an
active member of the Texas Music
Educators Association, The International
Trumpet Guild and Bugles Across
America.
