The American Band Idol Contest

The fifth annual AMERICAN BAND IDOL COMPETITION will be held at the American Band Instrument Service Education Center in Tyler, Texas. The contest is patterned after the "AMERICAN IDOL" television show only without the harsh words to contestants. Students are given the opportunity to perform before an audience and three college level judges. The judges grade the students' performance on a points system and give suggestions for improving their playing. Free T-shirts are given to all contestants. Cash prizes and trophies are given to the top two performers in both the middle school and the high school divisions. CONTEST DAY IS SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2007.

The rules are simple:

  • Sign up for the contest at American Band Instrument Service 124 Shelley Dr. Tyler, Texas (There is no charge or fee.
  • There are two Divisions - High School & Middle School.
  • Each student will perform 1 minute of your UIL or TMEA solo for 3 college judges. The best will continue to the finals where you will perform your entire solo and get your chance to become the AMERICAN BAND IDOL!
  • You must sign up before the contest begins and remember there is a limit of twenty contestants per division.
  • Sorry, no snare drum solos, but melodic percussion is welcome. Drummers are allowed to compete at our “Duel of the Drummers” contest in November each year.

Prizes and trophies for the winners

All participants will get a T-shirt
Limited to the first 20 in each division.
The two main winners in each division will receive a trophy and a gift certificate.
