The following is a list of private teachers that have openings for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. These teachers do not work for American Band Instrument Service, and they may, or may not teach at the store location. If you need a private instructor, you should contact the teacher at the phone number listed to set up a time and place for your lessons.

Brent Bassham

Brent BasshamMr. Bassham has been a successful private instructor for the last 6 years in the Tyler, TX area. All levels are taught with competance and integrity. Students include UIL winning musicians. He is an in-demand performer for both public and private events and a highly qualified instructor. Past performances have included; the Texas Guitar Festival, Mesquite Guitar Festival, and was a special performer for the Celebration of Pepe Romero at USC. He has received instruction from master teachers such as Franklin Kimlicko, Brian Head (president of Guitar Foundation of America), Enric Madrigera, Miguel Antonio, Maestro Pepe Romero, Maestro Angel Romero, and Grammy winners; David Russel, William Kanengiser, and Scott Tennant.

Howard Galletly

Howard Galletly is a Band Director with twenty seven years of experience. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas and his Master's of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at Tyler. He is currently the Band Director at T. K. Dr. Kenneth Muckelroy

Dr. Muckelroy came to Tyler State College in January of 1974 as the first Music Professor at the new school being established in East Texas. He began a Department of Music that has grown significantly over the years. In 1976 Tyler State College became Texas Eastern University and in 1979 that school became The University of Texas At Tyler.

Prior to coming to the University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Muckelroy taught in the Texas public school systems of Granger, Midland, and Brazosport as a band director, orchestra director and as a general music teacher. His college and university teaching experiences include Jacksonville College, Tyler Junior College, Southwest Texas State University, The University of Houston and The University of Texas at Tyler.

Dr. Muckelroy holds the degree Bachelor of Music from Southwestern University in Georgetown, and the Master of Music and Dr. Of Education in Music Education from the University of Houston.

On August 31 of 2000 Dr. Muckelroy retired having completed forty-four years as a music teacher, and having been a strong influence in the lives and careers of hundreds of students. He and his wife make their home in Tyler where he continues to play with the UT Tyler Community Band and the Tyler Big Band. He teaches privately and remains an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, The International Trumpet Guild and Bugles Across America.

Archie Jones, Jr.

Archie Jones, Jr. has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northwestern State University at Natchitoches, LA. He also, has Suzuki Certification from the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Jones is affiliated with symphonies in Shreveport, Marshall, Longview, and South Arkansas. He has a few openings to instruct students at the beginner, intermediate, or advanced level on a one-on-one basis to strengthen strings techniques and overall musicality. Lloyd Roesch

Lloyd Roesch has a Master's Degree from Louisiana State University in Music Education. He has over twenty years successful teaching experience, and over thirty years as a professional symphony orchestra musician. He has also done Broadway musicals and studio recordings. Mr. Roesch is currently Director of Instrumental Music at All Saints Episcopal School in Tyler. His students have consistently been selected for All Region and All State ensembles. Randy York

Randy has been playing guitar for over 35 years. He is a native Tylerite who first started by taking lessons from David Stanley then from Larry Stanley. He and long time friend Phil Lacy play extensively in the Tyler area as the acoustic duo "York and Lacy".

York has composed several songs and has provided background music for short films. He specializes in the steel stringed acoustic guitar but plays electric guitar as well. He is a patient teacher who is comfortable with beginning and advanced students helping each to achieve their personal goals.

Private guitar lessons are $20. Per lesson based on a thirty minute lesson once a week, or $40. Per lesson based on an hourly lesson which can be taken every other week.
