G. Leblanc Short History

Leblanc woodwinds are the flagship line of instruments offered by G. Leblanc Corporation. Many of the world's most discerning and respected musicians recognize Leblanc clarinets as the finest available.

Shortly after World War I, Georges Leblanc, descendant of a long line of distinguished French instrument makers, and his son, Leon, organized G. Leblanc Cie. as an experimental laboratory for acoustical research and for the development of new and more accurate woodwind manufacturing methods. The company prospered and grew, and is now managed by Leon Leblanc, the world's only clarinet maker who is also recognized as a gifted artist, holder of the coveted First Prize of the Conservatoire National Superieru de Musique de Paris.

On both sides of the Atlantic, Leblanc has dedicated its research to finding the delicate balance of hand craftsmanship and machine tooling that produces wind instruments of unsurpassed quality. Leon Leblanc and his mentor, the late master acoustician Charles Houvenaghel, pushed the theoretical limits of instrument design and developed the first truly playable choir of clarinets with voices from sopranino to octo-contrabass, a range exceeding that of the orchestra's string sections. Today, Leblanc is the only company in the world specializing in the manufacture of the complete family of clarinets.

Today many names comprise the family of world-class instruments from the world of Leblanc. Names like Leblanc, Noblet, Normandy, Vito, Courtois, Holton, Martin, Yanagisawa, and the Woodwind Company, are all sold under the Leblanc banner.
