Emerson Flutes Short History

Emerson Musical Instruments has always been a family-run company. Emerson L. Deford, Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of the company, is a world renowned master artisan in the highly skilled art of flutemaking. Having spent over forty years designing and improving flutes, he is the only maker of a complete line of flutes whose name appears on the instrument.

Now, after years of training under the watchful eye of their father, Emerson Deford's sons, Mark and Dean, have assumed the leadership roles of Emerson Musical Instruments. Dean Deford is responsible for the manufacturing operations of the company, for which he has trained by hands-on participation in all aspects of the craftsmanlike building of Emerson flutes. Mark Deford is in charge of marketing and sales, working closely with distributors, retailers and purchasers of Emerson flutes and piccolos. Mark, like his brother knows every tiny detail that goes into producing some of the worlds finest flutes: Emerson.

Emerson Deford will continue to work closely with his sons to guarantee that every Emerson flute and piccolo is the finest quality instrument possible. In addition, Emerson Deford will continue his favorite activity: building one of a kind flutes for the flutist who desires a custom instrument.

With the next generation of family ownership now in place, Emerson Musical Instruments has been and will continue to be committed to excellence in the manufacture of flutes and piccolos.
