Scott Rhame graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964. After two years at Kilgore Junior College, under the direction of Wally Reed, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. There he received his Bachelor of Music Degree. In 1975, Mr. Rhame completed his masterÌs degree from what is now The University of Texas at Tyler under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Muckleroy. Mr. Rhame began his teaching career in Mt. Enterprise during his senior year of college. At that time he taught half of a day. He began teaching at Carlisle High School in 1969. After three successful years at Carlisle, Mr. Rhame moved to Overton where he taught for six years. Mr. Rhame spent seven years directing bands in Henderson. In 1984, his concert band came in 7th in the Honor Band competition. After directing in Henderson, Mr. Rhame taught for eight years at West Rusk. In 1989, his concert band finished 6th in the state. Mr. Rhame then left West Rusk to return to Carlisle. He is currently in his fifteenth year at Carlisle. Mr. RhameÌs bands have been in the Texas Music EducatorsÌ Association Honor Band finals seven times. Two of those times were with Carlisle in which he and his band won the top spot in 2001 and 2005. Each year the band has placed in the finals of the Outstanding Performance Series in association with the Association of Texas Small School Bands. Last year his band swept all of the first place spots in OPS. This is only the second time in the history of OPS that this has been done. Mr. Rhame is a member of TMEA, ATSSB, TMAA, and Phi Beta Mu fraternity. He has taught percussion at summer camps for twenty-three years. Mr. Rhame also taught guitar and percussion for a number of years at the University of Texas at Tyler. When Mr. Rhame is not in the band hall, he enjoys playing guitar, riding his motorcycle and shopping at garage sales and auctions with his wife, Gloria. They have been married for 41 years, and have three children and seven granddaughters. |
